Rotary Club of Claverhouse, Cyclathon 2007

The 2007 Cyclathon will take place on Sunday 09 September and will start and finish at Camperdown Park, Dundee. It is a fun, sponsored cycle ride round Dundee’s Green Circular Route and appeals to families, clubs and youth groups, attracting many team entries. Last year’s Cyclathon fielded 600+ riders and was a huge success. Entrants can either donate their raised funds to the Rotary Club of Claverhouse nominated charity or a charity of their choice. Further details of start time etc will be available shortly on publication of the leaflet and entry form.

The 2006 Cyclathon raised in excess of £25,000 for local charities and the event is the Club’s major annual fundraiser.

A charity fashion show in Cupar’s Corn Exchange has raised more than £3000. It was organised by Cupar Rotary Club, in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support and Age Concern Cupar. Fashions were provided by local business Scotts Ladieswear, which is celebrating its centenary. Nearly 300 attended the event, which also featured displays of news events from the past 100 years as well as mannequins dressed in outfits from the various decades. Pictured with the models and some of the Rotarians involved is Hilda Scott ((centre) of Scotts Ladies Wear, flanked by Rotary president Dereck Thomson and compere for the evening Ann Baird.

Mr and Mrs Lovat Grant were guests of honour at the lunchtime meeting of the Rotary Club of Dundee on Thursday 19th April 2007. The occasion was the celebration of Lovat's exactly 50 years of membership of Rotary International - all of which was spent with the Dundee club. Lovat, now a sprightly 88 year old, recalled his early introduction to Rotary and thanked the club for marking this milestone. An avid curler Lovat recalled, as a Rotarian, visiting Canada in 1976, following in the footsteps of his father who first went there as a curler 1913. Things were different then and Lovat's father had to carry his own stones around Canada during that tour. President Ian Duncan who presented the award also presented Mrs Grant with a bouquet. He congratulated Lovat saying "Behind every successful man is a surprised woman!", whereupon the flowers were produced.
