Articles and News Reports
• Deadlines for printed magazine is one month before a District Council meeting where magazines will be available for collection by clubs.
• Copy can only be accepted by electronic means - email or disk. Written copy, even if beautifully typed, is not acceptable. The editor does not have access to a copy typist to input text.
• Please make the SUBJECT of the email - Article for 1010 Rotarian. Any other subject content may be rejected by spam filters.
• Copy should be SPELL CHECKED and correctly punctuated with no extraneous character spaces. Scruffy or inaccurate copy will be returned to the author for correction.
• Articles can be on any subject of interest to Rotarians in District 1010.
• Copyright should belong to the author / contributor or the copyright owners express permission must be obtained before an article can be published. Scans of newspaper reports will not be considered for publication.
• All material received will be considered for inclusion in this web site. The printed magazine will be A4 format and, in addition to Rotary material, will contain a range of general interest items which will appeal to the wider family of Rotary. In depth feature articles about particular aspects of Rotary will be most welcome for inclusion in the printed version.
Photographs
• Copyright and reproduction rights must be owned by the contributor, or permission to reproduce the photograph be obtained from the copyright owner. The law is simple (Copyright Designs & Patents Act 1984) copyright of a photograph is owned by the person creating the photograph with the exception of a staff photographer whose employer owns the copyright. As far as the 1010 Rotarian is concerned receipt of a photograph for publication implies that copyright clearance has been obtained. Any legal challenges over copyright issues will be passed to the club or individual concerned with supplying the photograph in the first instance.
• Photographs scanned from another publication are not acceptable.
• Prints from film negatives are acceptable if of good quality. A stamped addressed envelope should be include for the return of print(s).
• Inkjet prints are not acceptable, the original digital file should be submitted.
• Digital files should be at least 6"x4"in size, 8 bit RGB JPEG large. Resolution should be 300 dpi. for magazine reproduction, less is acceptable for the web site. Please do not attempt any sharpening or CMYK conversion. Camera raw files from Nikon or Canon cameras are acceptable.
• If your club does not have a professional photographer as a member go out and recruit one - it will save both of us a lot of time and trouble. If you don't know a photographer try here. www.bipp.com |
